We had so much fun here. Seriously. So much. Court, Katy, Clara, and I headed to Manassas battlefield (where the first and second battles of Bull Run took place) after a quick trip to Target to prep for Lucy's b-day party that night. Anyway, the weather was perfect and it was such a beautiful place. It makes me all nostalgic just thinking about what a great time we had.

Katy Trip: Sky Meadow
The first place I took Katy when she came to visit was Sky Meadow State Park. Love this place. After Sky Meadow we stopped at Wegman's for a big fat eclair. (When we came here the first thing many people asked us was, "Have you been to Wegman's?" Wegman's is a grocery store and it is fab. But I will go ahead and say it, Harmon's is my store. Their artisan bread can't be matched. Sorry Wegman's.)

Lucy's 11th Birthday
On Lucy's actual birthday we took her out for Japanese in Centreville. After dinner we went home for presents and cake and ice cream. Aunty Court made an ice cream fudge cake, a special request by Lu. Before we get onto the pictures can I just say how strange it is to have an eleven year old daughter. I remember being eleven. It wasn't that long ago. Lucy is growing up into such a great person. For the most part she is a very patient and loving sister. We love having a built in babysitter and she seems to enjoy being left in charge. She does a great job, no one has complained yet. It has been a tough adjustment, moving, but she has really done well. She left behind a school she misses a lot and even more, she misses her awesome friend Malia. They talk on the phone all the time, and I hope they will be able to BFF (for real). The nice thing is, once she started school here, she has met some nice girls and really seems to be adjusting well. Next year she goes to middle school which scares the living daylights out of me. I happened to have a TERRIBLE middle school experience and so I worry about sweet innocent Lucy entering the world of sex, drugs, and rock and roll (well less rock and roll, and more Justin Beiber). But so far she has shown a tasteful disdain of all stars spawned by Disney and seems to pick friends that have good standards, so maybe she will survive her entrance into teen-age hood unscathed. I seriously couldn't ask for a better first child. A friend told me if you raise the first one right, they will be a good example to their siblings and your work will be a lot easier. Lucy has always set the bar high. She has been well behaved, excelled in academics, and is just a sweet, pleasant person to have around. We love her and are proud of her! Happy eleventh to our not-so-babyish-anymore first baby.
Clara announced for days that she wanted to get Lucy silly bands. We all know her motivation for this was she was hoping Lucy would just give her the silly bands. Of course Lucy did just that. What a nice sister. And Clara, I'm afraid in this case it may not have been a thoughtful gesture. Oh well.
Lucy outgrew pink a long time ago and when we moved she got a green and blue room. We found this awesome print for her which goes along with her color scheme perfectly.

Lucy's awesome explorer monument. One thing I have to say: Thank goodness for Dads who help with projects!!!
Our First Virginia Thanksgiving
You know how it kind of stinks when you don't have people to spend holidays with. You know, when you try to make do? We were pretty lucky this year. Katy flew in, Courtney lives here, and the Fennimore family lives a short drive away. So we all gathered at our house for a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration. The food was delicious, the kids were loud, and the company was the best. It was a perfect Thanksgiving.
Katy and I channeled our Father and stole some pyracanthus I'd scoped out from a gas station:
And Katy used said pyracanthus to make a lovely centerpiece:
Adam was the turkey expert and did a stellar job if I do say so myself:
The table was beautiful:
The kids waited and waited patiently to eat:
And we had some great post-feasting games:
Hooray for fun holidays and wonderful people to share them with!!!
(and hooray for people that take pictures so I can use them on my blog)

Clara's Thanksgiving Program
Clara's preschool had a Thanksgiving program/feast. It was fab. Once again, seeing her lined up with her peers, I realized our kids are shrimps.
