We all got up and to the airport for our 11:30 flight. We had plenty of time, because security was much smoother than anticipated. Anyway, Anders was barbaric yawp excited.
We flew Delta to Chicago and then Virgin. The Virgin flight was awesome. They had a bag with blankets, eye covers, booties, ear plugs. They had food. They had unlimited free movies. Anyway, the looong flight wasn't half as bad as I imagined it would be. I asked my doctor what would happen if I took a lot more xanax than normal. He said, I'll sleep longer. Nice. In fact I recommend 2 Xanax and a benedryl and you will wake up an hour before landing super confused and missing your pillow and covered in drool, and pleased you missed the entire flight. Life is better with drugs.
When we landed at 9:30 we went directly to the passport line. Which took two hours. Yikes!
But who cares because: UK!!!!!!
Next stop was Hertz to pick up our ginormous van that would schlep us around the teensy tiny country roads. How we survived is a mystery. Rob was a champ.
Our first stop was a hop skip and a jump from Heathrow; Windsor. It was so exciting and magical to realize England is still charming and the buildings are all old and Cornish pasties are as delicious as I remembered. Lunch was the first priority and everyone liked pasties as much as I do.
Next we lined up to enter the castle.
We got our headsets, a favorite of mine. So nice to know what you are looking at, but also nice to turn it off when it is getting longwinded, unlike an actual tour guide.
After we finished at the Castle we wandered down to Eton.
Our final stop in Windsor was the Sainsbury's where we picked up supper and a stash of treats. Hooray.
We drove from Windsor to our first Airbnb which was in Berkshire in the village of Streatly. Linden Cottage. It was perfect.
We ate dinner, enjoyed some wifi time, and forced ourselves to stay awake until 8. And then we slept slept slept. Not a bad start at all.
