Spring Break Part 3

Our last day in Escalante we had to play by ear because heavy rains made some of our plans impossible.  Like we were going to hike along the Escalante River (which you have to cross a few times) to an arch, but the river was pretty high and not really something you cross casually, unless you aren't uber cautious like Anna and Lucy.  So we parked at the trailhead and went up the hillside to see petroglyphs and views.  Then we decided to do Peekaboo and Spooky slots.  There was some weird bathmophobia (a new word for me, but was so validated when I found out this was a real condition), so I split from the group while they explored the slots, and instead I hiked along a canyon rim.  Anyway, waiting for pics of the two slots (one of which was impassable because of rain).  We spent our last night in our "Tiny House" airbnb, which really was so dang cute, and then it was on to our last Spring Break adventure.

From above you can see some of the slots.

Spring Break Part 2

We started the day with a hike to Calf Creek Falls.  It was incredibly beautiful and pictures can't capture it.  It was early spring so not too hot.  We got up early to do it and I'm glad because hiking out we passed the masses hiking in.  After the hike we drove the scenic Highway 12 from Boulder to Capitol Reef where we did a little more hiking.  The drive was incredible and is ranked one of the most scenic drives in the world.  I can see why.  That night we ate dinner at the famous Hell's Backbone Grill in Boulder, also pretty famous.  It was amazing.  Seriously.  I listened to a podcast with the two women who run the restaurant/farm....it's a very cool place.  Anyway.....

The next day was stormy, but we braved the weather and hiked in Bryce.  It was so muddy and we did a pretty long hike in the mud, but the weather just made it all that more incredible.  There is no bad weather, just bad gear....we had mostly the right gear.  Also for some reason Clara decided to be a horse for the entire hike and galloped horse style for miles.  Really, where does all that energy and bounce come from?  She needs to bottle and sell it.
