I've been abnormally apathetic to the presidential elections this cycle. This year I have been annoyed beyond belief at the press coverage of the elections. "Giuliani wore red and sneezed three times last week, what does this mean in Iowa to black fundamentalist sushi eaters?" "Mitt blinked more than average, so will this affect his chances with the moderate Republican women who like carpooling but hate root beer?" Anyway, I've been pretty unconnected.
In '04 I practically could think of nothing else. I know, it was annoying, but I couldn't think, read, or talk about much else Perhaps it was because of my very very strong dislike and distrust of Bushie and his cronies and I was so anxious to see him lose power. It was a bitter disappointment when he was reelected. I think I sort of forced myself to tune out after that.
Last night when I heard that Hillary had come in 3rd I actually felt a rush of excitement over the elections. I still don't know if I will vote Democrat or Republican on this one, and I think we have a pretty poor selection of candidates but one thing I know: I want anyone but Hillary. Lets end the Bush/Clinton era. I can see Jeb and Chelsea running next time....Heaven help us. Now that she doesn't seem quite the inevitable candidate she was portrayed to be maybe I will be able to tune in more.
So here is to anyone but Hillary in '08!!!

Go Obama!
Anna, your invented sound bites are fantastic! I wish the news had been that interesting.
I hate to admit that I don't like Hillary either, since the anti-Hillary movement that has existed for over a decade is based on principles that, for the most part, repulse me. Nevertheless, I don't like her either. Who's she to talk about change? As Bush was coming in and Slick Willie was on his way out, the rhetoric of changing and getting a fresh start was so overwhelming that it went far beyond a cliche. How could Hillary possible pose as the agent for a new direction in America? Even if she is different from Bill (which she is), America would never buy her as the messiah of change.
I just think she is way too entrenched in the power structures that are eating America for breakfast.
As for Bush's reelection, I was bummed the morning of, but then I realized how good it was for him to have another term. I figured the neo-con failure in Iraq would preclude any support for further invasions of Iran or Syria (so far, so good, knock on my head), so his further damage to the world would be limited. I also thought that if Kerry had taken office, HE would have been blamed for the colossal failure that the invasion of Iraq is. I realized that with Bush in a second term, he would have to take responsibility for all of his immoral stupidity.
Obama seems a bit slick to me too. Mitt terrifies me. The last thing Mormons need is a Republican, Mormon president - the thin line between Mormon culture and the Republican party could effectively be wiped out forever!
I like Huckabee, except for his blind form of religion. I just can't trust the intelligence or complexity of thought of any one who actually doesn't believe in evolution. Our current president has already been simple-minded and myopic enough.
Ron Paul is a rock star and would be shot if he ever got close to the presidency. I like Edwards because he actually gives a damn about the less advantaged, and, well, he's a Tarheel fan.
Who knows who I'll vote for, but to your "anyone but Hillary" let me add a "and anyone but Mitt."
AMEN to ANYONE BUT HER!!! I'm still torn between Obama and Mitt for multipe reasons which I will not name,...but seriously I will be shipping myself and my brood over seas should "SHE" win...
She is satan for sure. In a game recently I took part of the question was, "If you could kill anyone and it would be okay who would you kill?"... In a group of about 15, 1/2 picked her.
I have to say I am thinking about myself and my family. I don't agree withe demacrats views on health care (and so many other social issues) AT ALL. They appeal to those who want something FOR NOTHING. After having to use the welfare system myself I have very strong opinions about how the system is run. It needs to be there for those who try and better their lives. The majority are those who live on the system FOREVER and are penalized for trying to better their lives by getting kicked off the system. It is totally jacked up and needs someone with my knowledge (NOT) of the system. Remember how hard it was to get benefits...I think that is just wrong. Oh man I have gotten myself all worked up...I have major issues with this subject!
I am still up in the air about who I think would be best (just not Hillary)...I think back to something you said, "anyone who goes into politics is messed up".
Everyone just tells you what they think you want to hear to get elected. You can't trust any politician...in my opinion. Now I am going to go take some medication!
That is a spectacular picture of Madame Clinton!
D.
I'm so thrilled about the Obama victory in Iowa.....it's made me addicted to the race coverage again too. Counting down until NH and keeping my fingers crossed.
Want to add my applause and cheers for your creative sound bytes. I haven't had contact with you in years; and just recently discovered your blog, as well as, that you are a talented writer. I also have to say that I love your "Countdown to End of Residency" (especially since we have approx. the same number of days left as you). Have a great week!
