Memorial Day Festivities

Memorial Day, as you all know, rolled around again. And as usual we did what we always do, which I love. There was, however, one major glitch. Dickie (my Dad) wasn't there for the kickoff of high Dickie Days (a season titled by cousins Will and Steve that refers to all holidays falling between Memorial Day and ending with the grand high Dickie Day holiday of Thanksgiving), which really was a major topic of discussion for all the Taylor clan in attendance. There was even some talk of de-clanning him. But maybe we will give him another chance. It just didn't feel quite right.
Anyway, someone with a brilliant mind (Katy and/or Tom?) decided to move the cabin festivities to Sunday night!! It was great and I hope we will always do it this way. The cabin was fun with lots of Hank and Colette's clan in attendance. Brickerhaven is beautiful as always. I feel pretty lucky to have had such a great childhood, roaming the mountainside with cousins.

My kids stayed in Provo for a sleepover and I met up with everyone again in the morning for a trip to the cemetery. We were a small crowd with the Ringers and my parents out of town but we managed to get some of the traditional shots.

We made the trek over to "crazy Grandpa George's" grave (notice Clara's fab footwear) and met up with a descendant of said George who had some great stories about him to tell.  He even led us to the wives's graves and I learned some really interesting things about my people from him.  He had some interesting insights and knew so much about them.  It makes me feel connected and I love that feeling.

After the cemetery the swimming fest began.  We swam all day and have the sunburns to prove it.  As the day went on more revelers trickled in, and we had a bbq with lots of good eats.  Summer feels official now, except for the fact that we have 8 more days of school to go!

Happy start of summer! I love that you guys have all of these holiday traditions. And I have plenty of memories of joining the Taylor familiy festivities that I totally relish. Glad to see that it was another successful Memorial Day kick off. Here's to the Dickie Days!

What fun traditions! It looks like a great time - and those swimming pictures make me jealous. A dip in a pool sounds so nice right now!

It sounds like that silly Dickie is in a boatload of trouble! I am happy to see the changes in the traditions. With the new order, you get the best of both worlds: the cabin and the pool. Well done.

We will see you soon.

OXO
