When Rob and I were dating he took me to Springville to meet his Grandma and Grandpa Hastings. I think it was love at first sight with me and Grandma. We really hit it off. Since then there have been countless evenings spent in their company. Grandma had us over all the time for some amazingly delicious dinners (think fondue, crab legs, awesome dutch oven food, etc) and lots of cards. A night at Grandma and Grandpas was always fun. They have had a wonderful life filled with good friends, wonderful family and lots of adventures. One night we went over and Grandma had made an incredible dinner and Grandpa pulled out the old footage of their famed "wilderness trips" where they would ride horses up into the mountains of Wyoming and camp, fish, and have a wonderful time. Grandma has shared so much of her life with me. When I was a nanny in New York she would write me the most wonderful letters. When Rob was on his mission she took me to the opera. She has shared some of her writing with me and we have discussed many, many books together. She has sent us home with bags of fresh raspberries from her garden and big batches of chocolate chip cookies. She and Rob spent several afternoons oil painting together in her basement. She has been a great card partner (she is vicious so I was always glad to be on her team). She loved me from the start and let me know it. She has always told me she thought I was perfect for her Robbie and has always treated me like I was her very own flesh and blood grand daughter. For our wedding she gave us Bob's parents wedding linens. They are beautiful and mean so much to me.
On Saturday we got together with some of the Hastings clan for the celebration of her 90th birthday. It was a wonderful evening and I'm glad we got to be there.

I'm pretty sure you are one of Grandma's favs. She has always talked so much about you and how she adores you. It was great to see you guys! We do need to make sure we get that bbq in before you move!
Indeed, a lovely tribute. I'm so glad you came to know my folks when they were in their prime. The times you and Rob spent with them were very special to them, too.
They sound like such wonderful people!! Thanks for sharing.
I didn't know that about Rob's grandma. You are one very lucky lady.
