The following day (St. Patrick's Day in fact) we drove to Aztec NM, where there is a lovely Chacoan ruin, which we explored and then had a picnic lunch. Then it was on to Mesa Verde. The bad news was the actual cliff dwellings are closed until May, but the good news is we could still see them from the cliff tops and we had a fun afternoon playing I spy. What a cool place. Clara did the Junior Ranger thing and we made it to the station after closing, but the nice ranger helped her out anyway.

I love those square stone arches. I would like to visit those places again.

Jim thinks those cliff dwellings are too small to have housed real people. He thinks they're miniature models.
