Ack. This trip has killed my blogging. I must get through it. Our hotel was so great. I loved staying there.
Slieve League was stunning. And windy. Tallest cliffs in Europe. Had it not been so windy it could have been a great hike. But the wind and heights just get to me.
We went to Cloghanmore tomb where the sheep were trapped in the walkway, which made me nervous. Animals are so dirty. I don't actually really love them. Kind of crazy that these ruins are just in the middle of fields. Not really a district developed for tourism, which makes it feel like you are just discovering random ruins.
We stopped at Malinbeg beach. We were definitely off the beaten tourist track. It was beautiful.
We went to the village of Glencomcille and did a walk and ran into a woman who now lives in Canada but told us where to find all sorts of cool hidden ancient treasures. A tomb in the middle of some farmer's field, a Celtic stone where you can look through and see your future. Our future is sheep and rain.
This angel motif went "viral" back in it's day, but the woman told us this was where it originated.
The drive back was gorgeous along the coast with crazy rainbows everywhere.
We ate dinner in Donegal town before heading back to the hotel.
Our final day in Ireland started with a tour of Donegal Castle before we drove to Dublin to catch our flight the next morning.
We drove to Dublin and did the Guiness Tour, which is very Disneyland touristy, but I'm glad we can check it off the list. They actually pipe Guiness from the factory to the pubs in Dublin!
We had enough time after Guiness to do the Dublin Castle tour. Also very glad we did this. Gave me a better feel for Dublin's history.
We did NOT know we had to be to the airport 3 hours before our flight. They almost didn't let us check in because they said the line at customs would be too long to make our flight. Oh my goodness. I nearly had a heart attack. The line was sooooooooo long at security, and then at customs. We should have missed our flight and we ran our hearts out to get on the plane. Which sat there, delayed by almost an hour, so in the end the sweat and panic were in vain. We had a super duper long layover at JFK and made it home very late. But we woke up to delicious treats by Clara. Home sweet home.
