Yardsale Success

The yard sale went really well.  Thank you so much everyone who participated or helped out in any way.  Millie, especially, went the extra mile and really helped get the show on the road making signs and the cool graphic, putting together the raffle, and much more.  Thank you all very much.
And the good news:
We raised over $1,000 for the orphanage.  There are still a few incoming donations, so when those are all gathered I will let you all know the total.
I really can't say thank you enough to everyone who came and helped.  Sometimes it is hard to stay motivated and your support really really really  helped.

Monarch Madness or Life Cycle 101

Our friends the Spencers have been posting on their blog about a monarch caterpillar they hatched from an egg, watched grow and transform into a chrysalis. It has been fun to watch the progress via their blog and Emily found an egg that hatched for us. We drove down and picked up our caterpillar yesterday and brought it home. It munches on milkweed and so the kids named it Muncher. Today when we got home from the farmers market we noticed some huge milkweed growing out of the neighbors pfitzer bushes. We harvested some stalks, and we think (by using google images) that there are a few eggs on them. We will see if any caterpillars hatch. We are excited to watch the transformation of our caterpillar into a butterfly. You should really check out Emily's posts. She has done some great research and took some fantastic pictures of their monarch.
Trying to determine if, indeed the tiny white fleck is an egg:

You can't really see Muncher because it is still so tiny
but you can see the patch of leaf it has munched:
See the little fleck on the upright leaf?
We are hoping it is a monarch egg:

The Farmers Market

This summer I have made it up to the SLC Farmers Market a few times. I love it. It has been fun to see the produce become more abundant and the variety expand as the growing season goes on. And of course we had to eat some of the delicious pastries. There is some Mexican food that looks out of the world which I must try before the market closes in October. It is a great way to spend a Saturday morning.
