Green Policies

For a better understanding of each candidates platform when it comes to climate read this short but great article.

Ski Day

Rob, Court, and Todd took the kids skiing at Alta on Saturday. They had a great time. Rob didn't take his camera, but Court and Todd took pictures and you can see the kids in action here. I think maybe I should give in and give skiing a try. Maybe. (When I say that to Anders he always says, "Mom what does maybe mean, I forgot. Does it mean yes or no?" It's a mystery.)

Treasure Hunting

letterboxing. Anyone heard of it? I never had, but my sister posted about this on her blog and I think it looks like so much fun. You can do it all over the country and I think it would be such a fun Saturday family adventure. I guess the whole thing started in Dartmoor England and has been going strong in the USA since about 1998. You go to the letterboxing website, click on your state, find a clue for a letterbox hidden near you. Then using the clues you go find it. Inside the letterbox is a book and a stamp. You take a stamp and book with you. When you find the letterbox you stamp your book with the letterbox stamp and you stamp the letterbox book with your stamp. Anyway, you can make and hide your own letterbox. I think this sounds like so much fun. And since they are hidden all over the country you can go for a hunt anywhere! I think we will give this a try.

The Future?

This is pretty cool. Even George Dubya thought it was cool, which, well, says a lot. This city should be ready to inhabit in about two years. Also, if you are a Lost fan, the video may remind you a bit of the Dharma initiative. We have the technology, now we just need a collective will.

Happy Super Tuesday

Rob found this great website yesterday.  It is called procon.org and it lets you  look at each candidates platform, or compare each candidates platform by issue.  It is pretty helpful if you are having a hard time knowing what each candidate thinks or where they stand on the issues near and dear to your heart.  The issue nearest and dearest to my heart is the environment.  This is because I love my children, and plan on loving my grandchildren as dearly as I love my children. I want us to get our act together for them.  Here is a good guide to which candidates pass the green test.  May the best man win (and note I didn't say woman there!).

A Saturday Adventure

Saturday, after President Hinckley's funeral we headed down to Utah county, where we met up with our friends the Spencers. We drove out through Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain and through Cedar Fort to the itsy bitsy town of Camp Floyd. Every winter bald eagles come to roost there and we got to see them. It was very cool. I think the kids had more fun feeding the horses, but I really enjoyed watching the eagles. Emily claims that there are usually more, but I was impressed. They were really beautiful. We also peeked in the windows at the historical Inn that used to be a Pony Express stop and the old schoolhouse. After we drove through Eagle Mountain. It is a very odd place. A bunch of houses in the middle of nowhere. As far as we could tell there were no grocery stores, no gas stations, no places of business. What is the deal with that place? As far as I can tell it is a place for Utah developers to go nuts and ruin a perfectly good place with absolutely no planning; sprawl at its worst.  We stopped in Lehi for dinner at Porters Place. The weather was beautiful, the company was great, and we all had a wonderful day. We saw eagles, horses, a badger (?), a herd of antelope, and some deer. We had a great time, so thanks for the invitation Spencer family!

The kids at the historical schoolhouse.

On the trail of a badger or some little creature.

Watching the eagles.

I certainly am not a wildlife photographer but you can see three eagles roosting in the tree.

You can see another eagle hanging out in the tree in the background.

Lucy: A Career in Orthopedics?

Look what Lucy made out of Tinker Toys.  She even put a cast on her.  I thought it was pretty funny.
