Don't Worry, I Have Everything Under Control

I don't know what it is about life lately, but man, things are CRAZY around here.  Between carpooling, the gym, homework, and various school events yesterday I didn't get to shower until 4 (and then we raced, me with wet hair, to swim lessons where I had to fight the monster toddler who kept getting her head stuck between the bars, sitting in puddles, and falling down the bleachers.  Danger child)!  You know you have lost all pride when you go to the 3rd grade Rome play in your gym clothes, reeking of sweat, with your hair pulled back in a greasy and nasty pony tail.  And then there are the swim lessons, piano practicing/lessons, math homework, filthy school uniforms, rashes not being cured by the face cream the doctor prescribed, reading homework, science tests, after school theatre class, set up time for a primary dinner conflicting with the swim lessons, 1/2 cup of milk left in the fridge, sharing time prep, forgetting to call the pediatricians billing office again to clear up the insurance claim denial, YM activities, 2 tons of laundry, no idea what to make for dinner, an almost 2 year old quickly unloading the house one shelf at a time, upcoming birthday to shop for, and YOWZAH!!!  I know, I know, cry me a river, right?  Anyone with young kids is in the same boat, I know. But my great difficulty is being extremely lazy and basically wanting to sit down, ignore the chaos, and read a really great book.  Well, I better go wipe the crusty, dried, cold cereal off the counter, take out the poopy diaper smelling garbage, and take the mildewy towels out of the washing machine.  Or maybe, instead, I will see if I can't get in one more chapter of my book.

LOL! Yeah I know exactly what you mean. As if managing the older kids isn't enough - you throw a toddler in there and it magnifies it by ten! SJ is wearing me out the most - yes unloading the house one shelf at a time! My only times of relief are when she's asleep. How long does this last - do you remember? Ugh. Well - at least you are going to the gym and providing your kids with all of these wonderful activities (swimming lessons in the Fall? You are a die hard!). Just look forward to some adult time next week. Very excited!!!

Wow! I am impressed and inspired by the fact that you get yourself to the gym amid that chaos. I didn't know the kids were involved in so many things. Who's taking piano? It sounds crazy but wonderful to me:-)

Ha ha ha! That picture, along with the title is killing me. Too funny. Sounds crazy, but fun. Don't forget to relish these moments. I'm sure in a few years you'll be looking back and remembering how much fun it really was!e

Ah, yes -- the good old days (formerly known as "these trying times")! I had been wondering why you didn't blog more!

LOL! Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. But the sad thing is that you have FOUR kids and I have one. You know what that means? You are amazing!

No, seriously, it sounds like you are doing a fantastic job! It sounds like your kids are doing so many fun things! And I don't think that it is pathetic going to the play in post gym workout - I think it is awesome! That is true dedication and love :)

So glad to know that I'm not alone...because there are definitely days when I think that I'm the only one who can't keep up. However, I'm so glad that you wrote all of this down.

So a friend of mine posted this on her blog and I thought it was fitting:

"It takes nerves of steel, and a secretive nature, to be messy: to take naps in the afternoon, to make cakes from scratch with kids, and let them play with bread dough. To forget about multi-tasking and to waste time. It takes a little bit of the old crazy to try things that are too complicated and that will probably fail, but you know can't resist trying.
If we're strong and brave, if we have character and courage, we can become a messy people. We can have people over and shove our projects off the couch so they can sit down and visit.
Organization gives the appearance of priorities as straight as your straightened curtains and scrubbed countertops. Not that there's anything specifically wrong with being clean, but messy - ahhh, messy really says your priorities are hanging straight."

I keep telling Ryan all the things I'm not getting done that I want to (and I've only got 2 kids so far) and say someday I'll get it down. He always laughs and says, "yes, and then you'll die." Wish I were perfect today!

You are so living my life. I say pour some vinegar and some more soap in that washing machine with those smelly towels (they won't smell so bad), run it again and sit down and read!
