Happy Happy Birthday Lucy Dear...

Lu-bug is 9!!  Life goes by quickly is an understatement.  Sometimes I am baffled that she is a real person with her own informed opinions and sound base of knowledge.  I was going through her school work and found this little paragraph she wrote in response to a story about King Midas:  "I don't think people should spend all their life to get rich. I think people can if they want to. If you are rich you can't make friends. When you are rich you can have lots of toys. I think people that try to get rich should share their wealth."  Good on you, Lucy!
And she actually gets jokes now. Anyone who has kids that like to tell knock-knock jokes that make no sense and then have a good fake belly laugh can appreciate this milestone.  She isn't a little kid anymore.  Who is this person who is so smart and conscientious and helpful?  Who is this person who can be so serious one minute and soooo dang goofy the next?
Lucy is a wonderful person.  She is in third grade and her teacher is very possibly her favorite person on the planet.  Lucy and Miss A= BFF's.  Lucy loves school and is very fond of history and science.  She gets stellar grades.  Parent teacher conferences tend to be gush fests over what an awesome and model student Lucy is.  Her grades are great and a test without a hundred percent is a shocker.  She just finished a unit on Ancient Rome which rocked  her world.  She loved it. She is a voracious reader.  This year she tackled the Harry Potter series, the Spiderwick Chronicles, and so much more.  She also started insisting that she can do her own hair, and she has been very creative and done some pretty fancy do's to school.  She loves her friends and is a good friend.  She still loves American Girl dolls, Polly Pockets, and occasionally Barbies, but it does seem she is starting to grow out of some of her little girl toys.  She also loves cute clothes!  She loves a shopping trip with her Grammie!  She loves her cousins and especially looks up to Madi, who is so sweet and good to Lucy. She is a very good older sister, helping me with Clara, and entertaining her.  Clara loves Lucy and when she gets home from school I get a break from Clara because she prefers Lu's company.  Lu has also honed her swimming and soccer skills, started cooking, and begun playing the piano.  She loves music.  In school they listen to symphonies and she will say things like, "I love the Surprise Symphony.  It is so cool." And then I have to go to iTunes to find out which one that is.  Who could ask for a better daughter?  Not me.  If it sounds like I am bragging I am.  If it sounds like I am making this all up, I'm not.
We love you Lucy and hope your birthday is a good one!

Happy Birthday to Lucy! Isn't it nice when your children turn out to be good people that you would choose for a friend if they were your age?
