I sort of struggle with Halloween. I'm not a huge fan of the massive amounts of candy that come into my home (mostly because I have no self control and keep pilfering candy out of the plastic pumpkins). Mostly though, it stresses me out. I always want a cute house, but refuse to spend much money on decorations and don't come up with great decor, hence the frumpy Halloween decorations at our house. Also, growing up my Mom always made us darling costumes, and I have fabulous memories of costume parades and perfect Halloween satisfaction regarding costumes. But, me, well, I am not creative, and I don't sew. I also can't seem to justify spending money on costumes. So every year I feel very stressed out trying to figure out costumes for the kids. This year we were lucky. Emily had a Harry Potter costume just the right size for Tucker. Lucy wanted to be Hermione and I did not want to order the expensive robe. In desperation, I told the kids we would go to D.I. to see what we could find, and lo and behold we found the PERFECT accesories and exact costumes we needed for the price I was willing to pay. Everyone was happy, especially me. It was a Halloween miracle!
Dr. Explosion the Mad Scientist:
(Those 50 cent D.I. glasses are PERFECT, no?)
Harry Potter:
(the glasses another miraculous D.I. find)
Snow White with cousin Chicken:
(perfect fit from the hand-me down costume box)
Hermione Granger:
(Who would have thought we would find the PERFECT
Hogwarts robe at D.I. ? All it needed was a little tailoring

Here is the whole gang ready to hit the streets.
Alice in Wonderland, Indiana Jones, Harry, Hermione,
Dr. Explosion, Snow White, and Chicken little:
Here is the spot in front of Jennette's old house where
we met up with the Taylor cousins, Peter and Lucy
from Narnia (aka Ollie and Meg-a-Ra)
She charged with the best of the kids and was so pleased
to be getting candy.
Here she made it up the steps at the Ringer's
where Kelsey rewarded her with lots of chocolate:

Super cute. After about 5 minutes my kids forget all about their candy (that is what happens when they have candy whenever they want thanks to my stash). After I get all the "good stuff" out it goes into the trash and nobody asks about it again! I am so glad it is over!
Cute kids! We're too high on the hill -- not worth the hike -- so we've never had more than one or two trick-or-treaters. So Mom made me go to the temple instead, and we were the only ones in our session other than temple workers.
I have the exact same feelings about Halloween. Costumes (remember? we didn't even ORDER them until a week before Halloween). I didn't know you got the costumes at DI. Very impressive. I LOVED Anders costume. Very creative. I was extremely impressed. AND, YOU even had a costume! I didn't even have one and I was hosting a Halloween Party. How lame is that?
It WAS a Halloween miracle... 'cause all those kids looked super cute! And they all looked very proud of their costumes! Great work!
The costumes look awesome...and I'd have never thought DI, but that you spent weeks planning and searching. See how clever you are afterall. Who needs homemade, really!
Glad I have a kindred spirit in this regard!
The kids looked great! I love great costume finds at DI - you really lucked out. How on earth did you get Clara to wear a costume? SJ would have nothing to do with it and we put her to bed before the trick or treating even started. Are we mean parents? Sounds like you had a great Halloween!
I love all the coustumes! Well done. Did Ollie and Meg not go to the family party?
Word Verification: dishes. even the comp knows what I need to do!
Awfully cute! Excellent work. I sense that some day, I will have the same Halloween issues as you do...
What cute costumes! They all look great!
I have the same feelings as you do regarding Halloween. Luckily this year Costco had a costume that my little girl had to have and it was affordable. So, yes, I feel the same way...Phew, one more down!
They looked great.
